# 00 Preface <前書き> 中学生時代の野尻湖外国人村冒険：Yoshy’s Adventure in the foreigners’ Village of Nojiri-lake When Yoshy was a third grader of Arai J/H School
1964年 (昭和39年)は、東京オリンピックの年、高度成長経済の前期の渦中でした。ヨッシーは所謂、「団塊の世代」の最終年代に当たります。
1964 (Showa 39) was the year of Tokyo Olympics and in the middle of the first stage of high economic grows in Japan. Yoshy was born in the last edge of a baby boomer generation.
当時、中3の私は生徒会の編集部長でしたので、毎月の新聞、「萌芽」と、卒業記念の「生徒会誌」を部員と一緒にほぼ毎日放課後、8時ころまで作っていました。
In my third grader of Arai J/H School, as I was the editor in chief of student-council; the members and I had made monthly newsletter named “Hoga: Awakening” almost every evening, after school: until around 8:00 pm and at the end of the year, we made yearly “Students’ Memorial Book of the Year.”
偶々「佳作」になったこの作文は、生徒会誌に印刷されました。
This essay written by Yoshy fortunately won a prize, “Well Written Prize”, so it was printed in this memorial book.
今読み直すと、冷や汗ものです。当時の言葉で、「バンカラな」、品のない表現が多い、荒削りな作文です。審査員の評価は大きく分かれたのも頷けます。
After reading this again, it sure is a close shave! There are lots of bad-mannered expressions: vulgar and unrefined, etc. Now I understand why some judges’ score was very high and some was very bad.
親切にして下さったレスリーグローブ宣教師さんに、「作文の中の非礼」を詫びたいです。
Now, I wish I could apologise Mr. L. Grove who was a missionary and treated us kindly for “my impoliteness in this essay”.
読者諸氏は、当時の新井中における中学生の心理や、社会背景の空気を感じることができるかもしれません。
I hope you might get the air of us, students’ mind-situation in those days and social one.
舞台になっている「野尻湖外国人別荘村」は、今でも毎夏中心に賑わっています。LLシホヤ新井教室から車で、40分で行くことができます。今でも、成人の日本人は簡単には入れないと思います。
The main site of this essay was “Foreigners’’ Village in Nojiri-Lake”, which has still been crowded with the owners of their villas every summer. It takes only 40 minutes by car from LL Shihoya Arai School to get there. I’m sure most Japanese can’t easily enter this village.
読みやすいように脚色して「フィクション化」致しますが、これをお読み下さる小学生、中学生のみなさん、そしてその親御様、「英語学習」は、決して机上だけにあるのではないことを感じ取って頂ければ幸いに存じます。
