もうすぐ消え去る公民館と市民体育館：Public Hall and City-Gym vanishing soon
今年3月3日の、左から、市民体育館＋公民館と児童体育館です。
This picture was shot last March 3rd. You see from the left, ex-City Gymnasium + Public Hall and City Gymnasium for Children.
この3棟は現在解体中です。
These three buildings are now being torn down.
雪が降るまでには市民グランドになるのかな？
I guess a new Citizens’ Play-ground will appear.
とりわけ、思い出多い建物の解体現場は寂しくて、撮影できません。
I dislike taking a picture of such a demolished scene as I’ve got lots of memories in.
半世紀前、ここから左の丘陵地帯まで、田園でした。児童体育館の右は現在の新井小学校、当時の新井中学校でした。
Half a year ago, there was a beautiful countryside with no buildings from here to the left hill. At the right side of The Gymnasium for Children, now stands Arai Elementary School, where Arai Junior High School did back in those days.
萩原朔太郎 (1886-1942) の詩に、「中学の校庭」があります。勝手に英訳してみました。
I remembered one of Hagiwara Sakutaro’s poems, “The School Yard of Junior High”. Yoshy tried to translate it into my poor English.
われの中学にありたる日は
艶（なま）めく情熱になやみたり
いかりて書物をなげすて
ひとり校庭の草に寝ころび居しが
なにものの哀傷ぞ
はるかに青きを飛びさり
天日（てんじつ）直射して熱く帽子に照りぬ。
When I was once in a junior high school,
I was struggling with my irrepressible coquettish passion.
With intense self-hatred; throwing a book away,
I was lying flat on my back alone in the grass of the school yard.
Suddenly I noticed something melancholy
Flying in the blue sky and disappeared.
I noticed my school-cap being pierced by heated sunshine.
