Dr. Obokata who is just someone in question attended a press conference which started 1:00 pm on TV. Yoshy watched it for around half an hour.
論文の不備を弁解するよりも、スタップ細胞の存在を公開実験してくれた方が彼女の名誉挽回になるのにと思いました。
I thought that she should have showed her open experiment rather than making an excuse for her incomplete thesis about the existence of STAP cells.
ガリレオの「それでも地球は回っている！」を思い起こしました。
And I remembered “And yet, it moves!” This historic remark was uttered by Galileo Galilei (1564-1642).
ここまで追い込まれたら、組織と保身に遠慮しない方がいいのに。良くも悪くも、日本人は「出る杭を打ち」たがる傾向があるのでは？
Because she is now on the edge of a cliff, Yoshy thinks that she had better not hold back from her position of the institute. For better or worse, we Japanese are apt to “blow strong wind to a tall tree”, aren’t we?
生徒から質問される前に調べました。「スタップ細胞」の正式名は、「刺激惹起性多能性獲得細胞 (しげきじゃっきせいたのうせいかくとくさいぼう)」だそうです。
Yoshy consulted this word, “STAP” before one of my students would ask me; a dictionary says which stands for “*Stimulus-Triggered *Acquisition of *Pluripotency cells”.
<stimulus：刺激> <triggered：引き金のある> <acquisition：獲得>
<pluri- = multi-：多数、potency：潜在力、効能＞
